Junior Team Members present:
Minutes:
1) New poster designs (Jason Looser said he would help design some for GOOS paper with the senior team). Also need to work on designs for (paper, plastic/glass/cans, and strictly garbage)
2) We are looking to design a desktop background for the computers that indicates with a graphic/message to turn off monitors when not in use. Not sure if someone in the senior team with some computing skills would like to take this on. They could look at the standard desktop background as a starting point.
3) Revisiting/reworking the school ground greening plan. I think Christopher has a copy. We might use either some of my geography students or Bart's design class to help develop an updated plan. Just looking for interest in students that might want to take this on.
4) Creation of posters indicating energy use and waste production within the school. We would need to find some way of measuring both indicators. This could be a good lead up to Earth week. Also may want to have a competition among classrooms as to the most energy efficient and those that produce the least waste?
5) Upcoming events:
a) Earth Hour - March 28th 8:30pm - 9:30pm
We are looking at have an Earth Hour in the school between 2:00pm and 3:00 on the 27th minimum. Preferably all day as much as possible. We need to promote this with announcements and posters. I have some resources for this. http://www.EarthHourCanada.org
b) Earth Week - April 20th
Earth Day is on the 22st (PD day), but we should be looking at activities throughout the week. Earth Day and Liturgy on the 21st. GREENSTOCK is on the 24th. Some possible activities include tree planting, serc clean-up, greenstock agenda.
c) Canoe/camping trip?
We have at least 3 interested from Junior Green team.
We will need to have more regular meetings after the break, as this becomes a busier time of year for the green team. We also will need to have an after school meeting with the whole green team to complete our second audit of the school for the ecoschool certification.

1) Discussion re: 'GOOS' paper; student JL will help design some signage with the senior team. Also need sign design for paper, plastic/glass/cans, and strictly garbage signage for school receptacles. Mr. D will discuss with Mr. H (comm-tech)
2) Desktop background design for 'energy use/monitors off reminder': A senior communications technology student (RM) was 'volunteered' by a classmate. Mr. D will discuss with comm-Tech teacher.
3) Mr.D will have a grade 11 design tech student/class group work on 'revisiting/reworking' the school ground greening plan. Mr. R has a copy.
4) Measurement of waste and energy consumption - was addressed, but not thoughtfully discussed. A great lead up to Earth week, competition among classrooms - an intriguing idea?
5) Upcoming events:
a) Earth Hour - March 28th 8:30pm - 9:30pm.....Kim D and Katie L and Tina D volunteer for announcements leading up to Earth hour. We discussed Tuesday through Friday announcements, but Wed to Fri. probably sufficient. One more student would help.
b) Earth Week - April 20th.....Discussion re: Earth Day is on the 22st (PD day), Earth Day and Liturgy, GREENSTOCK on the 24th. Also, students interested in tree planting, serc clean-up, helping run/plan Greenstock.
c) Canoe/camping trip.....Great interest in trip. Date 'penciled in' as May 22 to 24 weekend (not Victoria Day weekend). Many interested from senior team.
6) Future meetings: more frequency needed in preparation for upcoming events.
